Sculpture

This is a course that combines materials with ideas. Students will explore many different mediums and techniques in the creation of three-dimensional objects. Major areas of exploration include CARVING, which is the process of shaping material by reducing its mass; MODELING, which is the direct sculptural method using pliable materials such as clay, plaster, and wax that allow the sculptor to create complex forms by adding or subtracting the material; CONSTRUCTION, also known as assemblage, which is a technique using a variety of materials including plastics, fabric, glass, found objects, or metals to create a new comment or interpretation; and CASTING, which uses molds to recreate human or manufactured forms or to produce multiples.
