Boys Golf

The Arrowhead Boys Golf Program consists of teams at the Varsity, Varsity Reserve, Junior Varsity, and Freshmen levels.  Any boys from the freshman through senior classes are eligible to try out for the various teams.  The program will carry approximately 30 to 36 boys for all levels.  Try-outs are at the end of March.  Golfers will have at least 2 nine-hole rounds before cuts are made.  The courses used by the Arrowhead players for tryouts are as follows:  Chenequa (JV, Varsity Reserve, and Varsity), and Ironwood for the Freshmen.  Players are expected to pay for their greens fees for try-outs.  Players need to provide their own clubs.

There will be an organizational meeting for any interested boys during the month of either February or early March.  Date, time, and location of the organizational meeting will be posted throughout school and in the Lake Country Reporter.

The season begins late March with the first competitions scheduled approximately two weeks after.  The season ends at the beginning of June, unless the varsity team qualifies for the state tournament generally the first full week of June.  During this period, no player is allowed to play in more than 14 competitions.

Our teams compete in the Classic 8 Conference, as well as in various non-conference invitationals.  Players are expected to be present at every practice, with focus and passion for the game.  The goal of each player is to reach his potential.  When called upon, players must be available to play each event.  Remember that high school golf is a team game with each member responsible to other members of the team.  Most golf meets are played either by 5 players, with 4 scores counting, or 4 players with all scores counting.

Players are expected to obey the rules of golf as well as etiquette.  Cheating, swearing, throwing clubs, inappropriate dress, and insincerity will not be tolerated.   The quality of play for the various levels of the Arrowhead program is generally as follows:  the varsity usually plays to an 8 handicap or less, the junior varsity to a 13 handicap, and the freshman to a 20 handicap.

To play competitive interscholastic golf all players need to improve their game by participating in as many golf functions as possible.  There are summer tours and tournaments and a wide variety of golf courses and ranges to practice.  We encourage the use of indoor practice facilities to work on the basic fundamentals of the golf swing.

In its 2 years of existence, the Lake Country Charity High School Golf Tournament has raised and donated $85,000 to the MACC Fund. The tournaments purpose is to aid in the eradication of childhood cancers and to have our players and teams exposed and involved in a philanthropic venture. Once again our players and coaches will be asked to seek donations which are then brought to the April 25th tournament site. This yea’rs site will be Brown Deer Golf Course, home of the PGA’s US Bank Championships.

We continue to ask businesses and individuals to help support these kids. PGA Tour player, and former Wisconsin Lutheran High School golfer, Mark Wilson will once again support the event by offering to play with players from two schools that are leaders in collecting donations for the Macc Fund. As Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancers, we ask that all of our communities get behind us and support this effort. This tournament is a competitive high school tournament for high school players. Some of the finest junior players in the state of Wisconsin are competing for medals, trophies, and prestige. They also play in hopes that not so fortunate children will be helped by their efforts.
