Membership
There is a limit of 12- 15 students, due to space in the facilities we use. Students are required to have taken and successfully passed Food and Nutrition. Students will be required to have their Food and Nutrition teacher fill out a referral form (provided by Mrs. King). This is to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for preparing food for ourselves and in some cases others. It is also necessary that students understand how to operate, clean and maintain our kitchens since they are the classroom for our food classes.
Students that were consistent members of the previous year will have seniority for membership. Otherwise participation is on a first come first serve basis. There will be a sign up sheet with the instructor. There will also be a waiting list, in case a student decides they cannot participate.
Purpose
• Share cooking experiences with other students. Sample new foods.
• Evaluate, constructively, other member’s demonstrations.
• Learn about college programs for the food industry and many career opportunities.
• Information about local competitions and food events.
Other Possibilities:
• Explore opportunities by Pro-Start, a program that allows students to
• Gain fieldwork experience
• Job shadow professionals
• Possible opportunities to watch demonstrations from top chefs from local restaurants or tour professional kitchens in local restaurants.
• Explore college opportunities
• Learn how to perform restaurant critiques.
• Community service projects
This club is self-generated. Students will be charged for all supplies and foods needed for each meeting. Fees for each meeting will be due to teacher one week prior to the actual meeting. Late money may prohibit the student from participating.
