2009 DECA International Career Development Conference - Anaheim CA
This year we had eleven students compete at the 2009 DECA Career Development Conference in Anaheim, CA. Three students qualified for finas earning "Top 16" in their particular event. Sophomore Heather Mrotek, entrepreneurship written event, junior Allison Benna, fashion promotion event, and senior Becky Hall, entrepreneurship - participating event.
Also, the Arrowhead DECA chapater earned the top 10 award in community service and leadership presented by MDA (muscular dystrophy association). In addition, Steve Melzer, Arrowhead DECA Advisor received the JC Penney Marketing Educator Award for outstanding committment made to Marketing Education. WHAT IS DECA?
DECA is a student organization of marketing and entrepreneurship students. It is a basic component of a Marketing Education program, which supports and enhances, related school based and work based learning
DECA provides students with skills and knowledge to succeed in the new global economy.
DECA is a local, state and national organization of goal-oriented youth with career interests in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
DECA'S MISSION STATEMENT
"The mission of DECA is to enhance the co-curricular education of students with interests in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. DECA helps students develop skills and competence for marketing careers, build self esteem, experience leadership and practice community involvement. DECA is committed to the advocacy of marketing and the growth of business and education partnerships."

HOW CAN YOU BECOME A DECA MEMBER?
1) As a junior or senior: enroll in Marketing X, Entrepreneurship Y, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Sales & Advertising, or Advanced Marketing Independent Study Classes
2) As a freshman or sophomore: enroll in World of Business class and contact teacher to sign up
* Cost is $10.00 per year, which includes local, state, and national membership

+ Top 10 Finish Among Schools The Past Twelve Years (35+ Schools) Including FIVE "Chapter of the Year" Awards
+ Five "Acts of Kindness" Awards 2008-09 For Community Service and Leadership Involvment
+ Qualified 18 Students for the 2009 State DECA Career Development Conference in Lake Geneva March 16-19th.
+ Six "Top Five" Individual Places Plus SEVEN Event "Finalists" (top 10%)
+ 72 Total Medals (top 10%) at 2009 competition held at Kettle Moraine High School in early January 2009
