Coaching Staff:
Philosophy:
Our coaching staff will instill self-confidence in all athletes and will provide positive experiences leading to positive self-esteem. Strong fundamentals will be stressed at all levels as the athletes learn our defense and offense. Teamwork, as well as, “team chemistry,” will be promoted as there is no letter “I” in the word “TEAM.”
Expectations:
· Positive Attitude - Each athlete must have a positive attitude both on and off the court
· Strong Work ethic – Each athlete is expected to work hard both on the court and in the
classroom
· Believe – Each athlete is expected to believe in themselves, team and coaches
· Respect – Each athlete will respect themselves, teammates, and coaches

Meet the Coaching Staff:
Heidi Hamilton – Varsity Coach
Coach Hamilton was a First team All-American and the #1 recruited player in the nation while at Pius XI High School. She went on to play at the University of Notre Dame on a full scholarship. She began her Varsity coaching career at Greendale High School in 1991 before accepting the Varsity Girls basketball position at Arrowhead High School in 1993. She was the Varsity coach until 2001, leading her teams to 4 Sectional Final appearances, as well as a State Tournament appearance in Madison in 1996. She was named “Coach of the Year,” by the Waukesha Freeman in 1996 and 2008. Coach Hamilton resigned from coaching in 2001 to start a family. She has a son Alec who is 9 and a daughter Aubrey who is 6. This is her second year back and she is excited about the upcoming season and is proud to introduce the rest of the Girls Basketball Coaching staff. This is her 16th year as a Special Education teacher at Arrowhead, teaching students with learning disabilities. Coach Hamilton is excited about the coaching staff because each coach is motivated, qualified and enthusiastic about the opportunity to coach in the program.
Kari Sagal – Assistant Varsity Coach Coach Sagal grew up in Monona (outside of Madison) and graduated in 1985 from Monona Grove High School. She attended Marquette University on a Division I basketball scholarship where she played for one year and eventually graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in physical education and a minor in coaching. She obtained my masters degree in Sports Administration from U.W.-LaCrosse. She started teaching at Arrowhead High School in 1994 and coached at the Junior Varsity level with Heidi Hamilton for three years before taking a brief reprieve to raise her three young daughters, Kailee age 11, Ashlee age 8 and Sydnee age 6.
Vince Peterson – Junior Varsity
Coach Peterson resides in Stone Bank where he lives with his wife Kim and their 4 children; Kelsey 9th grade, Emily 7th grade, Megan 3nd grade and Sam 1st grade. Vince grew up in Fort Atkinson and graduated in 1981. After High school Vince played Junior College basketball in Taft, California. Vince graduated from Cal State-Sacramento with a BS in Physical Education and a minor in Life Sciences and Health. Vince has also earned his Master's Degree in Sport Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse. Vince is currently the Department Chair of the Health and Physical Education Department at Shorewood High School where he has taught since 1997. Vince has coached football, basketball and golf in both California and Wisconsin.
Doug Drenzek – Freshman Red Coach
Coach Drenzek has been teaching science for 14 years. This is his 5th year at Arrowhead teaching AP Biology and Chemistry. He has coached a variety of sports including football, basketball and track. He has coached basketball for a total of 12 years. This is his 4th year coaching freshmen girls basketball at Arrowhead.
Trina Bower – Freshman Blue Coach
Coach Bower is returning for her second year as a Warhawk. She graduated with her BS from St. Norbert College and is currently in her master’s program at Cardinal Stritch in Instructional Technology. She teaches Advanced Algebra and Applied Algebra II at north campus. Her coaching philosophy revolves around team chemistry and mental toughness. Last year was her first year coaching the Freshmen B team and is looking forward to another great season.
Girls Basketball Program
The basketball season officially begins on Monday, November 10, 2008. At this time, each athlete will go through a try-out period of at least 2 days. The program consists of two Freshman teams, a Junior Varsity team and a Varsity Team with each team consisting of 12-15 players. For the Freshman and JV teams, the season goes through February and for the Varsity, the tournament begins at the end of February and runs through the beginning of March.
Practices are held 6 days a week and run 2 hours long. Practice times range anywhere from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. There will be a pre-season organizational meeting in October that will outline the tryouts and go over the upcoming season.
