Philosophy:

Our coaching staff will instill self-confidence in all athletes and will provide positive experiences leading to positive self-esteem.  Strong fundamentals will be stressed at all levels as the athletes learn our defense and offense.  Teamwork, as well as “team chemistry,” will be promoted as there is no letter “I” in the word “TEAM.”

Expectations:

·         Positive Attitude -     Each athlete must have a positive attitude both on and off the court

·         Strong Work ethic – Each athlete is expected to work hard both on the court and in the

                                   classroom

·         Believe      Each athlete is expected to believe in themselves, team and coaches

·         Respect    Each athlete will respect themselves, teammates, and coaches

·         Teamwork-  Each athlete will practice working as a team

Meet the Coaching Staff:

Heidi Hamilton – Varsity Coach

Coach Hamilton was a First team All-American and the #1 recruited player in the nation while at Pius XI High School.  She went on to play at the University of Notre Dame on a full scholarship.  She began her Varsity coaching career at Greendale High School in 1991 before accepting the Varsity Girls basketball position at Arrowhead High School in 1993.  She was the Varsity coach until 2001, leading her teams to 4 Sectional Final appearances, as well as a State Tournament appearance in Madison in 1996.   She was named “Coach of the Year,” by the Waukesha Freeman in 1996 and 2008.  Coach Hamilton resigned from coaching in 2001 to start a family.  She has a son Alec who is 11 and a daughter Aubrey who is 8.  This is her fourth year back and she is excited about the upcoming season and is proud to introduce the rest of the Girls Basketball Coaching staff.  This is her 18th year as a Special Education teacher at Arrowhead, teaching students with learning disabilities.  Coach Hamilton is excited about the coaching staff because each coach is motivated, qualified and enthusiastic about the opportunity to coach in the program.

Girls Basketball Program

The basketball season officially begins on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.  At this time, each athlete will go through a try-out period of at least 2 days.  The program consists of two Freshman teams, a Junior Varsity team and a Varsity Team with each team consisting of 12-15 players.  For each level, the season goes through March and for the Varsity, the tournament begins the 2nd week of March.

Practices are held 6 days a week and run 2 hours long.  Practice times range anywhere from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  There will be a pre-season organizational meeting in October that will outline the tryouts and go over the upcoming season.
