Girls Cross Country

"Lady Warhawks"

If you want to get in the best shape of your life and have a fun time doing it, then running Cross-Country at Arrowhead is your sport.  Cross-Country is a challenging and very rewarding sport.  There are no cuts for Cross-Country, and the only requirement is that you come to practice and meets prepared to run hard and compete against the other runners and more importantly yourself.

We encourage all runners to join one of the best programs in the state.  As a team the 'Lady Warhawks' have been to state 5 consecutive years.   Our biggest strength as a team is all of the girls pulling for each other in every practice and every meet.

The Cross-Country season starts in mid-August with practices from7:30AM to 10:00AM.  When school is in session, practice runs from 3:00PM to 5:00PM.  The only equipment needed to run is clothing suitable to run in, a good pair of running shoes, and a watch.  The team will meet to start practices on the Arrowhead Track.

The team participates in 8 to 9 different meets during the season.  All races on the Varsity and JV level are 2 ½ miles.  Freshmen start the season running 2-mile races and work their way up to the 2 ½ mile race.  A freshman can make the Varsity team if they are one of the eight fastest runners on the team.  Arrowhead hosts 3 meets during the season with the largest being the Arrowhead Invite.

In addition to meets and practice, the team takes part in many other fun activities.  Every year along with the boys' team, we train, picnic, and play games at Pike Lake.  The team has an annual coed bowling outing and a bike/run relay.  There is a large team and family dinner the day before the Arrowhead Invite.  Many parents of team members host team dinners throughout the season.  Also, the team has a clothing drive towards the end of the season as a community service project.
