The Knowledge Master Open is a national contest which is held twice a year, spring and fall. The contest consists of 200 very challenging academic questions sent to participating schools on a computer disk. The questions cover a wide range of subject area including the arts, math, science, language arts and social studies. The competition usually takes about 3 hours. Results are published within a few weeks of the official contest date.
On the Arrowhead High School's testing date the team members work together as a group to answer the questions as quickly as they can. The answers are entered into the computer and the team finds out immediately if they are correct and how many points they received. The competitions will be held either on a Saturday morning or an early release day.
Team members really enjoy working together and pooling their knowledge to determine the right answers. KMO competitions really demonstrate that teamwork pays off. Food is offered to nurture the team members' gray matter.
Any student is welcome to participate in a KMO competition. The high level of the questions favors a team composed of students from all grade levels who excel in their academic classes. Team members are expected to go to the KMO website prior to the competition and familiarize themselves with the type of questions they will be asked.
