John Krueger
The great John Wooden once said: Don’t measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability. As a three-sport athlete, John Krueger used his God-given talents to compete and excel at Arrowhead High School. John accumulated eight Varsity letters from 1964 to 1966, capturing three in basketball, three in baseball and two in football. As a sophomore, John made Varsity in three sports.
Basketball
Starting his sophomore, junior and senior years, John graduated as the second leading scorer in AHS boys basketball history and today is still ranked 6th all time with 903 points. He shot 91% from the free throw line his senior year, which was the highest percentage of any player at that time. Also that year, he led the team and conference in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game, plus he was All-Conference, All-County and All-State (Special Mention).
Baseball
What is a good batting average? Some would say .300, maybe even .250. Well…how about .532? John won the conference batting title his senior year with a .532 average. He was named All-Conference that year and also broke up a no-hitter by getting the only hit off the Germantown pitcher in a 1966 Sectional loss. John also hit over .300 during his sophomore and junior seasons. He was a team starter his last three years at AHS.
Football
John played football for Arrowhead his sophomore and junior years and was a starter as a junior.
In addition to being a star at Arrowhead, John played 25 years of baseball in the Land O Lakes and Rock River Leagues. In 2010, he was elected into the Land O Lakes Hall of Fame. John also enjoys golfing and has captured many tournament titles and has scored three hole in ones.
John uses his love of golf to also give back to Arrowhead. He has organized and ran the Al Vandertie Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing for the past 13 years. This event supports the AHS Boys Basketball program, giving scholarships to seniors who played basketball all four years with no athletic or academic code violation.
Did you know…John isn’t only gifted athletically; he also writes song lyrics and has more than 45 demos produced.
