Cursed with severe asthma and the fact he was a year younger than his peers, Tyler Greenebaum was a determined and dedicated multi-sport athlete that didn’t let anything hold him back. He earned six Varsity letters during his Arrowhead High School career -- three with football and three with track and field.
As a junior in 1996, Tyler led the defensive line, which posted six shutouts, the most of any Arrowhead team; and they went on to an unrivaled 14-0 record, earning Arrowhead’s third State Championship in four years. Tyler captured First-Team All-State, First-Team All-Area and First-Team All-Conference recognition. As team captain in 1997, he increased those honors, with First-Team All-State, All-Area and All-Conference awards, plus he was nominated All-American. In addition, the Classic 8 Conference awarded him Defensive Player of the Year.
Tyler’s personal achievements were as noteworthy as his team achievements. Tyler was the fastest Defensive Linemen in the country, posting 4.56-second 40-yard hand times and 4.78 FAT times. At age 15, he benched 225 lbs 16 times, with other personal bests for bench press at 335 lbs, squat at 495 lbs, dead lift at 455 lbs and power cleans at 275 lbs. At Notre Dame’s football camp, he won the 40-yard dash for defensive linemen. Tyler played in the Wisconsin North v. South Shrine Bowl in 1998. There, his peers voted him Co-captain along with Tony Romo. Tyler received Division 1 offers from the Air Force Academy and Army (West Point).
In Track & Field, Tyler also was a leader, winning dozens of meets in the shot put and discus. He left Arrowhead with the shot put record (52’6”), the discus relay record (with two other athletes), and the school’s third best discus thrower (156’). He was Conference Champion for discus in 1996 and 1997 and went on to place 10th in the State Meet for discus.
