Back-to-back State Titles. Very few runners can claim that honor. In fact, Steve Sarsfield was the only athlete to win the 400-meter run two years in a row (1986 and 1987) in Division 1 WIAA State competition until 30 years later when another runner repeated the same accomplishment. Steve’s time of 48.32 is still an Arrowhead record.
Steve Sarsfield was Arrowhead’s first State Champion in boys track & field.
In 1987, Steve also finished 3rd in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.15, which was a school record that stood until 1999. In addition, Steve was part of the 4X400 relay that finished 3rd in both 1985 and 1986. His relay team held a school record for many years.
Competing in some of the most challenging events, Steve finished his high school track career as one of the best in the AHS program, capturing many Conference Championships, along with his All-State honors.
