Go ahead and call her a Gym Rat. She’s proud of that honor, as no one believes more in this quote than Tina: Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard. Tina will be the first to tell you she was never the most gifted athletically, but she worked hard and was truly blessed with amazing coaches and teammates.
Tina started off her AHS athletic career making the varsity tennis team as a freshman. However, she dropped that sport the following year to dedicate the remaining of her high school career to basketball and soccer.
Basketball: Tina loved playing defense and was usually tasked with guarding the opponent’s leading scorer. In 1988, she helped the Warhawks bring home the WIAA State Championship and an undefeated season. Tina ended her AHS basketball career with 863 points and was named Defensive Player of the Year. She also received the Gym Rat award her sophomore, junior and senior years. And Lake Country Reporter’s Chuck Delsman named Tina one of the top six players in AHS girls basketball history and put her on the Second Team All-Time Best in Lake Country basketball history. She received a full-ride to play basketball at South Dakota State University. At SDSU, Tina played in every game, setting a school record for most games played in a career.
Soccer: Tina made the JV team her freshman year and was the team’s leading scorer. She got moved up to Varsity for the post-season and actually played in the WIAA State Tournament for the Warhawks. As a sophomore, Tina started and was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. That year, the Warhawks made it to the State Tournament for a second straight year. As a junior, Tina was named First-Team All-Conference and helped lead her team to a State Runner-up Title. The championship game went into double over time and then the Warhawks unfortunately lost in sudden death PKs. For Tina’s senior year, the team made its fourth straight State Tournament appearance and she received All-Conference honors again. Tina was recruited by both UW-Milwaukee and UW-Madison to play college soccer.
To end her athletic career at Arrowhead, Tina received seven Varsity letters and was awarded the AHS Alumni Female Athletic Award. She cherishes “many wonderful moments with the most incredible coaches, teammates, fans and the Arrowhead community.” Today, Tina lives in Hartland with her husband Todd (she met him at SDSU) and their two children Lauren and Trey.
