Brad Peterson
Athlete-Track & Football
There's little doubt about it. Brad Peterson had one of the best two-sport senior years in school history. In the fall of 2003 and spring of 2004, he put his outstanding athletic trademark on both the sports of football and track and field.
In the fall of 2003, Brad was a defensive back for the No. 3 ranked Arrowhead football team, helping the Warhawks finish second in the WIAA Division 1 State Championship game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. He also was a starting defensive back as a junior, where the Warhawks also finished as State runner-up. To this day, Brad ranks as one of the top defensive backs in school history. He was named to the All-County football first team in 2003 by the Waukesha Freeman.
Once the spring track season began, Brad capped off his high school career by climbing to the top of the mountain. He not only helped the Warhawks win their second team State Championship in school history, but he also brought home gold as an individual when he won the 300-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 38.43. How fast was that race? Remarkably, that time still holds the school record, 16 years later. By winning that race, Brad also earned first-team All-State honors.
At the state meet, Brad also ran on the second-place 4x400 relay team that lost to winning Catholic Memorial by less than two-tenths of a second. He's one of the few track athletes ever at Arrowhead to finish first and second in two different events at the same state meet.
After graduating high school in 2004, Brad attended UW-La Crosse. He competed four years on the track team where he won one individual WIAC Conference championship in the 400 hurdles and was a NCAA Division 3 All-American in five events. He also played football at La Crosse his first two years, before injuries took him off the field.
Brad not only excelled on the athletic field, but also in the classroom. He was on the honor roll all four years at Arrowhead and at La Crosse, was an ESPN Academic All-American, and was the WIAC Conference scholar track and field Athlete of the Year in 2009.
After graduation in 2009, Brad went to medical school at UW-Madison and graduated there in 2014. After medical school was completed, he finished his residency for emergency medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2017. He currently is working as an emergency department physician at various hospitals in the Milwaukee area.
