The German Club is a great opportunity for German students to participate in activities that incorporate the language and culture of Germany. These activities are a lot of fun and help the student become immersed in the language and ideas taught at school. All students in a German language course are welcome to attend.
A few of the activities German Club is involved with include:
German Scavenger Hunt: Small groups of students take a list of common household items to ask for at local homes. The list is in German and the students have to speak German ONLY in their attempts to collect all the items and be the first back to school. Great prizes, great food, great fun! Es macht viel Spaß!
Deutsches Kino: Come join us to watch a German language film and have some movie snacks.
Game Day: We spend an afternoon playing some of your favorite board and card games in German!
Easter egg painting: This is a German tradition in the weeks before Easter. Come create your own beautiful Easter egg to hang on an "Osterstrauß"!
German Immersion Trip: Each year we take an immersion trip. We offer either a weekend at Concordia "Waldsee" Village in Bemidji or we spend one day in Chicago. Both trips are great opportunities to be immersed in the language outside the classroom!
Dinner at a German Restaurant: The Club attends dinner at a local restaurant for a taste of authentic German food.
German National Honor Society
Students who are active members of German Club and who meet the national academic requirements for German National Honor Society may apply for membership during the second semester of their German level 3 course. Members in German National Honor Society act as student leaders for German Club, planning and participating in Club and other events. Ask your German 3 teacher for details.
