The Arrowhead Boys Golf Program is arguably THE most successful boys golf program in the state, having won 8 State Championships overall, including 7 of the last 10 WIAA State Championships since 2007 -- '01, '07, '08, '09, '10, '12, '15 and '17! The Arrowhead boys golf team was also ranked '#1 Team Academic All-State' of Division 1 in 2017!
The Boys Golf Team consists of squads at the Varsity, Varsity Reserve, Junior Varsity, and Freshmen levels. Any freshman through senior boy is eligible to try out for the various teams. The program carries approximately 30 to 36 boys for all levels. Tryouts for 2025 begin Monday, March 31. Golfers will have at least two, 9-hole rounds before cuts are made. The course used for tryouts is Ironwood for all levels, V, VR, JV and Freshmen. Players are expected to pay for their green fees for try-outs. Players provide their own clubs.
There will be two organizational meetings in early February and Mid-March for any interested boys. Date, time, and location of each organizational meeting will be posted throughout school and announced over the school P.A.
With the exception of this year, the season typically begins late March, with the first competition scheduled approximately two weeks after. The season ends Mid-May for Freshmen, JV, and VR players, and at the end of May for Varsity, unless Varsity qualifies for the state tournament -- generally the first full week of June. During this period, no player is allowed to play in more than fifteen (15) competitions.
Our teams compete in the Classic-8 Conference, as well as in various non-conference invitationals. Players are expected to be present at every practice, with focus and passion for the game. The goal of each player is to reach his potential. When called upon, players must be available to play each event. Remember that high school golf is a team game with each member responsible to other team members. Most golf meets are played either by 5 players, with 4 scores counting, or 4 players with all scores counting.
Players are expected to obey the rules of golf as well as etiquette. Cheating, swearing, throwing clubs, inappropriate dress, and insincerity will not be tolerated. The quality of play for the various levels of the Arrowhead program is generally as follows: the varsity usually plays to an 8 handicap or less, the junior varsity to a 13 handicap, and the freshman to a 20 handicap.
To play competitive interscholastic golf, all players need to improve their games by participating in as many golf functions as possible. There are summer tours and tournaments and a wide variety of golf courses and ranges on which to practice. We encourage the use of indoor practice facilities and professional instruction to work on the basic fundamentals of the golf swing.
