Dick Myrhum
Dick Myrhum started the Arrowhead track program in 1962. He coached the boys and girls teams for 17 years and led the Warhawks to the school’s first-ever WIAA State Championship in 1965. His teams qualified for the State meet every year, but one under his direction. Arrowhead also won two Conference Indoor Championships and four Conference Outdoor Championships.
At Arrowhead, Dick taught physical science, general math and consumer math. In addition, he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army.
In the fall of 1989, Dick passed away while still a staff member at AHS. Many have said Dick was one of the most popular coaches ever at Arrowhead. In his honor, the Arrowhead Community renamed the school’s track and field invitational to the Richard C. Myrhum Invitational. This event is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
