Can you say longevity with impact? That’s how many describe Steve Kostka and his coaching role at Arrowhead. He led the girls track teams for 25 seasons and won more conference championships than any other track coach at AHS. At one stretch, the Warhawks won 10 league titles in 11 seasons.
Arrowhead achievements during Steve’s head coaching years:
- 12 Outdoor Conference Championships: 1993, 1999, 2004-2013
- 17 WIAA Regional Championships (Div. I): 1994, 1995, 1998-2001, 2003-2013
- 13 WIAA Sectional Championships (Div. I): 1994, 1995, 1998, 2003-2006, 2008-2013
- 3 WIAA State Meet Runner-ups (Div. I): 2007, 2010, 2011
Individual & Relay WIAA State Meet Champions (Div. I)
- 2002 – 3200-Meter Run - Jackie Mulrooney
- 2010 – 1600-Meter Run & 3200-Meter Run - Gabby Levac
- 2004 – 3200-Meter Relay - Cheri Hoffmann, Kristen Verre, Abbey O’Connell, Naomi Bong
- 2007 – 1600-Meter Relay - Casey Kuettner, Michelle Gray, Katie Duchow, Kailie Seneczko
Steve was named the WISTCA District VI Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2007, plus was inducted into the Wisconsin Track Hall of Fame in 2015. His coaching philosophy was: “People need to participate. They need to be a part of things. We try to get the kids who are out for track involved in as many events, even as many sports, as we can. They are using high school for what it is made to be…to experience as much as they can.”
