Roger Kuckkan
Three key principles of golf:
- Play the course as you find it
- Play the ball as it lies
- Do what is fair and honest
For 23 years, Roger Kuckkan coached the Arrowhead boys golf team and encouraged those three principles, plus so much more. Roger went above and beyond as a coach and joins the Arrowhead Hall of Fame as the first inductee representing golf. During his career, Arrowhead accomplished the following:
- Won three Conference Championships
- Won six team Regional Championships
- 10 teams qualified for Sectionals
- Two teams qualified for the State Tournament (1988, 1994)
- Three individuals qualified for the State Tournament (1984, 1991, 1993)
Roger also started the AHS Girls Golf Program in 1972, and coached the team for three seasons, including taking the team to State for the first time. In addition, Roger helped establish the first Varsity Reserve Conference in the state, allowing for additional competitive high school golf experiences. As the Varsity Reserve coach, Arrowhead won 10 of the first 11 Varsity Reserve Conference Championships.
Along with his role as coach, Roger also cherishes his involvement with the Lake Country Charity Invitational, which raises money for the MACC Fund. In the first nine years, the tournament has raised close to $500,000 for the fight against childhood cancer.
