Andrea Boritzke
Athlete-Girls Swimming
From the fall of 2002-2005 Andrea Boritzke literally swam her way into Arrowhead and WIAA history as the winningest swimmer in state history with 16 championship titles; 8 individual titles in the 100 yard backstroke, 100 freestyle and the 200 IM as well as 8 relay titles in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle relay. Andrea STILL holds the title for the WIAA for the most wins to this day! She never lost a race throughout her 4-year Varsity letter career under Arrowhead Athletic Hall of Fame coach, Bob Jenkyns. Andrea was the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel female swimmer of the year 4 times and was a 20-time All-American! Not only did Andrea hold school and state records in the 200 IM, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay but in 2003, 2004 and 2005 the Arrowhead 200 medley relay team were national record holders. Andrea won the WIAA State 200 IM event all 4 years of her high school career and the Arrowhead team took 1st place all 4 years as well. The 2005 200 Medley Relay team of Andrea Boritzke, Maggie Zblewski, Katie Eschenburg and Nicole Landisch still hold the Arrowhead High School pool record with a time of 1:42.79, a time that is faster than the WIAA state record for girls swimming in that event. Coach Jenkyns notes, “Andrea was an incredible swimmer for Arrowhead! She was an awesome age group swimmer for me as an 11-12 year old and then truly excelled in high school. She was extremely versatile, competitive, and welcomed any challenge thrown at her. She was truly a team first swimmer who never complained about where she was put in the line-up. She just did her best for the team wherever she was needed. She led by example and had a very successful career for Arrowhead.” Andrea was also a scholar athlete as she graduated in the spring of 2006 with honors and was a WISCA Academic All State and NISCA Academic All-American athlete. She also qualified for the National Select Camp for the 100 backstroke at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and received the 2006 Sports Advocate of Wisconsin Award of Excellence. Arrowhead was not the end of Andrea’s career as she continued swimming at the University of Arizona where she graduated in 2011 and was a 4-year NCAA qualifier, 2-time All-American in 2010 for the 200 free relay and 400 free relay as well as a 7-time honorable mention. 2008 was a huge year for Andrea as at the PAC-10 Women’s Swimming Champions she took 2nd place in the 200 backstroke, was part of the 2008 NCAA Championship team, and qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials in three events! Andrea has been a registered nurse since 2016 working currently as a travel nurse. She is married to Adam Bernard, has two beautiful daughters Aria, (6) and Addilyn who will be (1) in May and lives in Lindenhurst, Illinois.
