Homework Expectations
Homework will be assigned daily. In addition, homework will often be collected and graded, but I will always check for completion at the beginning of class. **Every 3rd missing assignment that a student has will result in an after school detention.
1. All assignments are due at the beginning of the next class, unless otherwise stated.
2. All assignments are to be done neatly.
3. Late homework will be accepted, but with a grade reduction (when the homework is graded). It’s easier to just do the homework on time. If work is not completed by the end of the unit, it will result in a zero.
Make-up Procedures
1. Tests and Quizzes must be completed on the scheduled day, unless you come to me BEFORE the test date to reschedule.
2. If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, you will have 3 days to retake it for full credit.
3. If you are absent for a homework assignment, the work is due the day you return to class. If this is a problem, you must see me prior to class that day.
Cheating and Plagiarism Policy
In a World Language class, the following fall under the category of “cheating”.
1. Use of a computer translator or other translating service.
2. Turning in assignments that are identical (or nearly identical) to another student’s. Helping and discussing homework is different than copying and cheating.
3. Copying another student’s work with or without that student’s knowledge.
Please see the cheating and plagiarism policies in the student handbook for additional information. All students involved are in violation. If you have questions about cheating/plagiarism, please ask the teacher. Don’t risk it!
Consequences of cheating:
First Offense: Zero for that grade. Parent and administration informed.
Second Offense: The cumulative grade for the six-week period will be lowered one full grade. Parent and administration informed. Refer to activity office for conduct unbecoming a student.
Third Offense: Drop from course and fail semester. Parent and administration informed. Refer to activity office for conduct unbecoming a student.
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory in a World Language class because new material is presented daily and missing class will have a direct effect on student’s comprehension. Students must be in their seats when the bell rings.
1. Tardy #1, #2, #3 – Warning!! If you walk into class after the bell rings, you are TARDY!
2. All other tardies – Saturday Detention
Classroom Expectations
1. All necessary materials are to be brought to class every day.
2. All students are expected to use French as much as possible – if not, all of the time.
3. When the bell rings, please wait to be dismissed. I dismiss you, not the bell.
4. No food, drink or gum is allowed in class, except for water.
5. No cell phones, IPods, etc are allowed in class, except when appropriate to class. Per AHS rules, students must leave their cell phone in their locker or backpack. If the student is caught using his/her phone during class time, the teacher will take it from them and hand it in to the main office.
6. All students must respect each other and the teacher. This includes being kind and helpful to everyone, not talking while others are talking, no derogatory comments, etc. Everyone is here to learn and a positive learning environment is key to success.
Extra Help
Students are encouraged to get extra help when needed. Please make appointments with the teacher before or after school or during specified hours in the day.
