Angie Wenzel Muresan
On the basketball court, there isn’t much Angie Wenzel Muresan didn’t accomplish. She was a four-year letter winner and started earning big-time awards as a sophomore. For three years in a row, as a sophomore, junior and senior, Angie was crowned:
- First-Team All Conference
- Team MVP
- Second-Team All Area
- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Star
- Waukesha County “Best Athletes” team
- Waukesha Freeman 1st team All-County
In addition, Angie captured Honorable Mention All-State her junior and senior years, and was a member of the All-Star game her senior year where she scored a game high 21 points and a game high 8 rebounds. As a junior against Mukwonago, Angie had one of the best games in school history, scoring 34 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. In that game, she made 16 of 16 shots from the floor and was 2 for 2 behind the line. Headlines read: Wenzel is just perfect for AHS.
Angie is no stranger to the stat sheet — she was the leading scorer and rebounder on the team as a sophomore, junior and senior, and is the only player at AHS to accomplish this feat. Plus she currently ranks as the second-leading scorer in AHS history, and is second in rebounds, and free throw & field goal percentage. As a sophomore, she helped lead her team to a Conference title and a trip to State competition. That year, the Warhawks went 20-4.
Angie’s achievements weren’t just on the basketball court. She also captured MVP and First-Team All-Conference honors in Volleyball, and in Softball, she earned Honorable Mention All-Conference and Academic All-State titles.
To tip the scales even further, Angie graduated with a 4.0 GPA, was ranked #1 in her graduating class, won the VFW Good Citizenship Award, was on the National Honor Society for three years, plus many, many other honors and accomplishments.
It was her basketball talents at Arrowhead that earned her an NCAA full-ride scholarship to the University of Illinois-Chicago, where as a freshman, she was crowned Player of the Week in the MCC Conference and was 2nd place in UIC history for a single-season field goal percentage (54.9%). As a sophomore, she transferred to UW-Milwaukee where she ended her collegiate basketball career and earned Scholar-Athlete with Distinction honors.
Angie and her husband Alex live in Lake Forest, Ill., and have four kids: Emily, Elijah, Erik and Evan. She currently teaches math and credits her Arrowhead athletic experiences – going through the ups and downs of a season and working closely with a group of people towards a common goal – as helping her succeed in her everyday life.
