Brian Steinbach |
Athlete - Baseball |
|
He’s one of those athletes…great at every sport he tried. At Arrowhead, Brian Steinbach earned 10 Varsity letters (4 Golf, 3 Baseball, 2 Volleyball and 1 Basketball). And he did it all while maintaining a 3.97 GPA.
While impressive in many sports, Brian really excelled at baseball. Here are his high school accomplishments:
-Freshman – Starting Varsity pitcher and outfielder
-Sophomore – Unanimous First Team and All Conference and All-Area, plus played on the Regional Championship team. Led team in hitting (.525 avg, 6 HRs and 47 RBIs) and pitching (10-1 record, 1.12 ERA). Highlights included a No Hitter vs. Waukesha South and recording 17 strikeouts vs. Waukesha North.
-Junior – Did not play due to an ACL injury suffered playing basketball the previous winter.
Senior – Injured arm prior to the season requiring Tommy John surgery. Brian was able to DH and hit .350 with 13 HRs.
-Brian finished his high school baseball career with 21 home runs.
Despite not pitching his junior and senior years of high school (due to injuries), Brian was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1993. Before going pro, he continued his baseball career on an athletic scholarship at the University of Michigan. There, he was a four-year starting pitcher, was the #1 starter in rotation for the 1997 and 1998 seasons; and was a member of the 1997 Big-Ten Conference Champions. Upon graduating, he held the following Michigan Baseball All-Time Records:
- 5th Career Innings pitched (248)
- 1 of only 6 pitchers with 200+ innings and 180+ strikeouts
- 9th Most Wins in Single Season (94 record in 1997)
- 15th career wins (18)
- The only 4-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference selection in Michigan Baseball History
In his collegiate career, Brian also collected the following awards:
- 1995 Geoff Zahn Award for Most Valuable Pitcher
- 1997 Steve Boros Award for Top Student Athlete
- 1994-1998 Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement Award
- Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship Recipient
- Marlin H. Pemberton Scholarship Recipient
Brian currently lives in Alamo, CA, with his wife Gabrielle and their two children Charlotte and Boden. He is a marketing director for The Clorox Company.
