“And though she be but little, she is fierce.” - Shakespeare
This William Shakespeare quote from A Midsummer Night’s Dream aptly describes Tracie Mittelsteadt and her competitive spirit. Standing at a proud five-foot-something, Tracie was relentless on the soccer field and used her smaller stature to her advantage, dodging her opponents, controlling the midfield and making big-time plays. In addition, she had a strong leg that gave her a decided advantage as she took direct kicks with extreme accuracy and often hit the upper “V,” scoring goal after goal for the Warhawks.
For four years, Tracie excelled on the AHS soccer field and she earned All-Conference and All-State honors her junior and senior years. In addition, she was named Team Captain. Tracie helped lead the Warhawks to three Conference Championship titles and three State Tournament appearances, and in 1987, the team took home the WIAA State Runner-up trophy.
Along with soccer, Tracie also
lettered four years in gymnastics at AHS.
Tracie’s accomplishments caught UW-Milwaukee’s attention and she earned a soccer scholarship. As a Panther, she received the Scholar/Athlete award all four years, was elected to the National Honor Society and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. She earned a bachelors degree in early childhood education and started her career teaching kindergarten in the Milwaukee School District.
Tracie and her husband Scott live in Bozeman, Mont. She continues to stay active starting a new business with Scott, running races and going on skiing trips.
