Jim Neidhoefer
Arrowhead’s first individual WIAA State Swim Championship happened in 1985. Jim Neidhoefer won the 100 breaststroke. He captured the title again in the same event the following year and he became Arrowhead’s first All-American swimmer. A title he earned both his junior and senior years.
As a four-year Letter Winner at AHS for swimming, Jim made the State Finals every year in the 100 Breaststroke competition. He placed second at State as a sophomore, and was undefeated his junior and senior years. He was also the team’s Most Valuable swimmer for three years, and was Team Captain his senior year.
In 1981 before becoming a freshman at Arrowhead, Jim set a National Age Group swimming record that is still in the Top 100 Times for that age group (30 years later).
All of his hard work in the water paid off as Jim received a Division 1 athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama where is was a member of the 1987 SEC Championship swim team. While at the university, he completed a BS, Masters and Ph. D. in Aerospace Engineering.
From 1997 to 2012, Jim did contract research and development for NASA and the Department of Defense, developing unmanned aircrafts (drones). Now, living in Georgia, Jim enjoys being a full-time musician (guitar).
