Stacy (Schmidt) May
As the starting point guard on the undefeated AHS 1988 girls basketball team, Stacy Schmidt did it all. She played tough defense, was an amazing shooter from the field and the free throw line, and finished her career at Arrowhead as the assist leader (394) and the career recovery and steals leader (345).
Coach Pete Von Allmen saw tremendous potential in Stacy early and started her as a freshman on the varsity team. She held that position for four years and captured All-Conference honors every year at AHS. Stacy also was named All-Waukesha her junior and senior years, and All-State and All-State Tournament Team her senior year. Stacy was also co-captain that year.
Stacy’s junior year, the team made a State tournament appearance, losing in the semi-finals to the eventual champion. Then, in 1988, the team – ranked first in the state and 4th in the country by USA Today, earned the school’s first State girls basketball title.
In addition to basketball, Stacy excelled on the track, lettering all four years at AHS.
After high school, Stacy had a stellar career playing basketball for Beloit College, where she captured the following:
- 1989-92 – First-Team All-Conference honors all four years
- 1989-90 – Fast Break Third-Team All-American
- 1991-92 – Team MVP
- 1991-92 – Co-Captain
- 1991-92 – Led the nation in free throw percentage at 92%
- Beloit College Career Free Throw Percentage Leader (82.5%)
- 2004 Beloit College Hall of Fame Inductee
Stacy and her husband Rob live in Florida and have three children. She has coached all three in basketball during their middle school years. Currently, Stacy and Rob enjoy watching their children play high school and college sports. Stacy is a middle school language arts and literature teacher.
“The entire experience at Arrowhead was very empowering for all of us girls,” said Stacy. “Coach Pete von Allmen set the stage for a strong program in the years to come.”
